In order for M.U.S.H.R. to make the best possible match between dog and future owners, we need to know a little about our potential adopters. We do this through a very thorough adoption process:

  1. Interview: We start by viewing your initial email or speaking to you on the phone. We like to get some information about you, your family, and your lifestyle. Information about if you have children, cats, and/or other dogs are very important. Some other good information is if you are a runner, enjoy skijoring, train in agility, and/or any other activities you are involved in. We also want to make sure you understand the basic characteristics of a Siberian Husky.
  2. Meeting: Once we have done the interview and have matched you with a M.U.S.H.R. dog we set up a meeting. We like you to meet with the dog at least twice before adopting him/her. This meeting is to see how you and the dog match one-on-one, and gives you the chance to ask any questions you may have for the foster owner. M.U.S.H.R. recommends that children and other dogs be introduced at the second visit. If things go well at the second visit you can proceed with adopting him/her.
  3. Trial period: After adopting a dog from M.U.S.H.R., we give you and the adopted dog a two week trial period. This helps insure the transition for everyone is more relaxing and that you are a positive match. Also, if you need any help, a M.U.S.H.R. volunteer is always available to answer any question.
  4. Adoption fee: When a dog is adopted from M.U.S.H.R. we ask for an adoption fee. This fee helps us offset the incurred cost of foster care, veterinary services, and any other medical treatment. DogsĀ 10 months and older: $250 Dogs 10 months and younger: $350
  5. Going Home: When you adopt a M.U.S.H.R. dog you will have to complete the adoption contract, and will be given copies of his/her medical records. Also, you will receive a copy of M.U.S.H.R.’s adoption guidelines. Throughout the life of a M.U.S.H.R. dog the volunteers will always be there for the dogs. If you have any questions, need training tips, or even need a dog-sitter a MUSHR volunteer will be there to help.

M.U.S.H.R.’s adoption process is in place to make sure the best possible match is made between dog and future owner. If you have any questions or are interested in adopting please call or email us.
